🎒 How to Size & Fit Your Toddler’s Backpack
Bringing quiet luxury to kids backpacks. A guide from
As your toddler becomes more independent and starts carrying their own backpack, a good fit is key. A properly sized backpack helps support healthy posture, avoids discomfort, and lets them enjoy their daily adventures with ease.
Here’s how to make sure your little one’s backpack fits just right.
✅ 1. Choose the Right Size
Quick guide: The backpack should not be wider than your child’s back or hang more than 5 cm below their waist.

🧵 All That’s My Backpack bags are designed for toddlers – large sized to fit everything your child needs for daycare. A large backpack should be carried by a grownup until your child is 5.
🎒 2. Adjust the Straps
Your child should wear both shoulder straps so the backpack sits high and close to the back — ideally just below the shoulder blades and not drooping.
Strap Fit Checklist:
- Sits above the bottom
- Shoulder straps lie flat, not too tight
- Base of the backpack rests in the curve of their lower back
🛠 Pro tip: Kids grow quickly – check and adjust the straps every couple of months.
📦 3. Keep It Light
Even a well-fitted backpack can cause strain if it’s overloaded.
General rule: The backpack should weigh no more than 10% of your child’s body weight.
For a 20 kg child, their backpack should weigh no more than 2kg, including everything inside.
💡 Packing Tips:
- Stick to essentials (snack, water bottle, toy, jumper)
- Distribute weight evenly inside
- Use lightweight lunchboxes and containers
🚶 4. Watch How They Move
Once they’ve got the backpack on, have your child:
- Walk a few steps
- Raise their arms
- Bend over
✔️ The backpack should stay put — not bounce or shift.
✘ If they lean forward or it slips off, try adjusting the fit or lightening the load.
📏 5. Check Regularly As They Grow
Growth spurts come fast! Check the fit every couple of months:
- Are the straps too tight?
- Is it sitting too high or low?
- Are they ready for a bigger size?
Upgrading at the right time keeps things comfy and safe.
